RCCG 2020 NOVEMBER FAST!

RCCG 2020 NOVEMBER FAST!

We are excited as a church to be part of the annual RCCG fast. Here is the link to the prayer points: THIRTY DAYS PRAYER GUIDE RCCG FAST_

Fasting is voluntarily abstaining primarily from food and other fleshly indulgences (sex, tv, social media, partying, chatting, playing games etc.) for the spiritual purpose of humbling ourselves in prayer.

Voluntary – willful, not coerced. Whosoever that comes to God must believe that he is…. (Heb 11:6)

Primarily – scripture establish that fasting must be abstinence from food primarily. Other fleshly gratification could be added to it, but scriptural fasting must be abstinence from food primarily.

Humbling – as opposed to conventional thinking, fasting is a time to show our helplessness, submission and brokenness before God. Psalm 35:13, Ezra 8:21-23

Prayer – time spent with God must be the focus of our fasting. If we are fasting and still can’t pray personally, (not waiting for a corporate time of prayer) then that’s a hunger strike!

Why do we fast?

We fast because it is part of the requirements of a disciplined Christian life.

Also, Fasting demonstrates the singleness of our heart in pursuit of God. Fasting essentially says to God; “you mean more to me than food, water, social media, chatting, sex etc.” Psalm 42:1-2. Remember again that no one can find God, who pursues him casually. Matthew 11:12, Jeremiah 29:13. These desires could be;

o   God’s guidance over any specific issue of our life. Ezra 8:21

o   Seeking repentance or forgiveness of sin. Jonah 3:5-10, Joel 2:12-13, Nehemiah 9:1-2

o   To seek God’s face. Daniel 9:3

o   The preservation of our race, church, nation or family. Esther 4:3
